From disco to dance or reggae to rock, Solfest has something to offer everyone.
We have seven stages, each with a distinct character, that between them host an astonishing variety of performers over the festival weekend. Our hope is that every visitor will not only find what they came looking for, but will also discover something new.
We also provide a variety of chillout spaces for flopping down and just soaking up the Solfest atmosphere. These areas can play host to impromptu acoustic outbursts or simply offer an opportunity to regale others with fantastic festival tales.
Nestled in its own little corner of the festival, the Drystone Stage is the festival’s biggest outdoor stage, home to the wild, the wonderful and the wacky. The ‘spiritual home’ for many Solfest performers and festival-goers alike. This is the place to spot up-and-coming new talent, mellow out in the sun, or dance the night away to the very best in contemporary folk, jazz, blues and world music. If Solfest is the party, then the Drystone Stage is the laughter-filled room down the hall where all the musos hang out. Where the craic is always good, and lively, lovely music fills the air!
The Solway Bar
If you don’t want to miss the music while you queue for a drink, why not combine the two at the Solway Bar? Serving a selection of local real ales and special Solway cider, alongside a heavy dose of rock’n’roll, ska, punk, blues, and even northern soul, to cater for those who need to take a break from the glorious Cumbrian sunshine. Notable names from previous years include The Skints, Bombskare and Bad Manners, so you know these guys aren’t messing around… We dare you not to spill your pint.
A new venture in 2015, the Electric Village is home to some great new ventures as well as some of our favourite bits from past events. Replacing our single large structure with three smaller more varied venues offering a true diverse range of dance, funk, reggae and electronic music. The Electric Village beats deep into the night, its outstanding light show, quality sound, superb visuals and great décor mixed with the best of UK and international artists will keep those of you who prefer late nights to early starts grooving into the wee small hours.
The Lost n Found crew are back again, still riding high on last years success. Spawn of the uk party scene these freaks, geeks and like minded beasts aim to fire up your heart, relax the mind and entertain your dancing feet all weekend. With a diverse and varied line-up of live music, electronic producers, DJ’s and artists from new and unsigned acts, to some well established and hard working veterans of their scenes. They continue to represent, support and nurture the Norths live music scene, with hand picked local guests, traveling artists, friends and family, as well as our resident DJ’s.
This is grass roots partying, home-grown, nurtured organically from small shoots… tiny seeds that gave root in fields, just like these around Tarns many years ago…
Known for putting on some of the best parties in the North, Stylus specialise in bringing a host of the most talented exponents of house, techno, electro and breaks together on barnstorming bills. Camped out in a lush Bedouin tent, with plenty of décor and a team of VJ’s providing projections, the mighty Funktion One soundsystem that these guys bring means this is a venue that you’ll be sure to get sweaty in.
Armed with a boatload of good vibes, crates of records and a frightening amount of speakers, the Unity Sessions crew are here to take underground dance music back to what it’s all about. If the bass is heavy and it’s liable to make you lift your knees past your ears then you’ll hear it here, from hip-hop, through grime, to dubstep, jungle, DnB, and some afrobeat and dancehall flavours thrown in for good measure. The simple pleasures and deep roots of communal dancing aren’t to be underestimated at and that’s what these guys want to help you to tap into. Come and get tribal with peace, love and Unity Sessions. www.unitysessions.co.uk

The Love Shack
A wise man once said… “The Love Shack is a little old place where we can get together”.
With this philosophy firmly in mind, The Proper North are proud to present ‘The Love Shack 2’ bringing together some of our best friends from the Northern Party scene playing nothing but the finest in Swing, Rock n Roll, Soul, Funk, Disco, Punk and House (sometimes all at the same time) also featuring exclusive Mash-Ups from The Love Shack Residents.
Keep calling back for updates or follow us on Facebook. Everyone at Love Shack HQ wishes you a blinding Summer, see you all at Solfest.
A communal fire, covered acoustic spaces, organised sessions, singalongs under the stars and two excellent cafes, Acoustic Corner is an oasis of acoustic calm at the heart of Solfest, like a mini-festival in its own right – bring your instruments and voices and be a part of it!
So, remember the old saying, “we ‘ad to mek our own innertainment in my day!” Well, we reckon that’s one of the best bits about a festival – the random connections you make with strangers singing Beatles or Oasis songs or whatever around a campfire. There just aren’t enough opportunities for that kind of thing any more, are there? So this year, we are proud to unveil… Acoustic Corner!
A magical space where being part of the crowd is being part of the entertainment. Led by our wonderful friends the Wierdstring Band aka the Windy Bottom Boys, the small but perfectly formed Melodrome Stage, and a heckle (collective noun) of story-tellers including Solfest regulars Ian Douglas and Gary Bridgens, Acoustic Corner is like that brilliant pub you used to go to where there was always a session going on, everyone’s joining in, and local celebrities pop by to hang out or share a song or a tune.
There will be some special guests on the Melodrome Stage through the day, and through the evening and into the small hours there’ll be a campfire and no amplified music, just good old-fashioned craic. We can’t tell you exactly what will be happening when, because it doesn’t quite work like that. Anything might happen, and it probably will. Anyone might turn up, and they probably will. It might be you! So don’t forget to bring your instruments, polish your stand-up routine, and warm up your voice.
Come and experience the Melodrome Magik as the unique Melodrome Mobile Stage returns to one of its favourite festivals. We will be hosting an eclectic, magical mix of Shakespeare, music, theatre, comedy, the best up and coming artists, our infamous Bush Rush and much much more. We will also be offering the opportunity for open mic slots throughout the weekend. A perfectly crafted gem, this is a great space for the whole family to enjoy.
Come and join in the magic…expect the unexpected….dance like there’s no-one watching…laugh till your cheeks hurt… be amazed and be amazing
