Solfest is delighted to bring you the next stage of our line-up for the 3 day multi genre grass roots festival situated on the stunning Solway coast. We are equally excited to announce this year’s headliner Newton Faulkner.
Breaking in to the mainstream in 2007 with the summer anthem ‘Dream catch me’ and his beautiful rendition of ‘Teardrop’ Newton Faulkner has proven to be astonishingly diverse over the years. In the past he was tagged ‘the British Jack Johnston’ and was seen as the guy with the dreadlocks who flayed the hell out of an acoustic guitar whenever he played live. These days Newton Faulkner is a different proposition, and his audacious last album, Human Love is a colourful statement of intent. His fifth studio collection is an alluring maelstrom of rhythm and harmony. Embracing racing drums, African percussion, chanted choruses, ambient interludes and the most imposing hooks of his career to date. His sound also lends itself to an amazingly energetic and engaging live performance promising to be a real highlight of this year’s festival.
There are also a number of new acts which have been added to the line-up joining Newton Falkner for the bank holiday weekend, some of the stand outs being English folk punk band ‘Ferocious Dog’ fresh from there headline UK tour which sold out in many cities. London’s purveyors of dance, folk punk Snapped Ankles will be playing in the bar stage along with Alternative Indie outfit Super Best Friends Club who release their 2nd album in July.
The new additions are joined by an already strong line-up of national and international stars including Dub Pistols, Stanton Warriors, Bean’s on Toast, Vibronics, Backyard Rhythm Orchestra, Vaodou Game, Will Varley, Chainska Brasika, The Undercover Hippy, Serial Killaz and many more acts over the 8 stages.
Along with the performers on the selection of stages we have also got some great walkabout acts to surprise and amaze people over the weekend including international football freestyle star Jamie Knight who performed at the Champions League final this year, we also welcome back the 20 people strong street band ‘Blast Furnace’ plus many more surprises.
A big part of the festival is providing interesting and visually stunning spaces for people to experience and our new art team are tirelessly working to make this one of the most wonderful years for art yet. Smile Factor 10 are also back this year bringing art to the sky’s with their array of amazing kites.
