We are the shiny disco ball hat wearing, ultimate genre hopping, twisted festival, live stage machine that puts the emphasis on music, entertaining and laughter. We are a party at its most outrageous and ridiculous.
Imagine Primal Scream and Happy Mondays had children genetically fused with the DNA of Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, James Brown, George Clinton and Neil Diamond.
Our live shows have included riding over the crowd in an inflatable Dijunicorn (see T In The Park 2016 pic attached), laughter yoga, hug-offs, dance-offs in a giant hay bird nest, singalongs about dancing in gay discos and being heartbroken by ginger people, line dancing and high 5ing to the beats.
Expect the unexpected when The Dijon Family come to town!
2016 was our most successful year yet as we played 38 gigs (mostly sell-outs – including 18 festivals) in Scotland, Ireland, England and South Korea on The Peace, Love & Mustard Tour.
The 5th of March 2016 was a defining moment in our career as we played Yellowland; our second headlining gig at the Barrowland Ballroom. A capacity crowd of 1,900 were there for what many described as the greatest gig they’ve ever witnessed. The reviews have been some of the best we’ve ever had and even BuzzFeed got in on the Yellowland action (check out #13).
We released our video for ‘International Sex Hero’ starring Scottish acting Legend and Dijon brother, Gavin Mitchell (Boaby the barman from hit BBC sitcom Still Game) and our good friends from the Insane Championship Wrestling on the 15th of February; a date that will forever more be known as International Sex Hero Day.
In May we played the Atlantic Main Stage at Liverpool Sound City which earned us this review from the Liverpool Echo as we paid our respects to the Hillsborough victims and families long fight for Truth and Justice.
We made our T In The Park debut on the T Break stage in front of a packed tent of approximately 1,000 6th Dijons (our affectionate name for our loyal following). T Break judge and Amazing Radio DJ Jim Gellatly described us as, “One of the best live bands in the country… T In The Park could well be the making of them…” and music journalist Mike McKenzie on his The Rambling Bison blog said, “It’ll be safe to say that anyone that saw them will have them top, or close, as their highlight of the weekend.”
We were invited to play at and showcase at South Korea’s most important music industry events, Zandari Festival and MU:CON, in October. This was when the Yellow Movement truly went global. We were featured in South Korea’s Britrok, View of the Arts, The Korea Times and were listed in the Top Five Moments at Zandari Festa 2016 by ATK Magazine. Our legendary ‘Dance Off’ was captured on video there and Zandari Festa co-organiser, Patrick Connor, had this to say, “Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 were undoubtedly one of the highlights of Zandari 2016! Their energy and enthusiasm was infectious and when they hit the stage they simply blew us all away. They got the crowd going and had some of the most audience participation I have ever seen. One of their songs contains the lyrics, “Everyone’s happy, everyone’s smiling, no one here is sad anymore”. Nothing could be truer when Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 are in town.”
We finished last year in style with our annual Yellow Xmas Party under the biggest disco ball in Europe at the O2 ABC Glasgow on Friday 23rd December with DF Concerts. A 1,300 sell-out a month in advance which received this belter of a review from F*CK YES blog.
We have another busy year planned for 2017. After a five month break we will be playing our biggest indoor gig to date (with DF Concerts again) in the 2,550 capacity O2 Academy Glasgow on Saturday 13th May (poster attached). After which, we have 10 festivals lined up including: Liverpool Sound City, Eden Festival, Willowman Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, Kendal Calling, Butefest, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Boomtown Fair, Lindisfarne Festival across Scotland and England and a return to South Korea and Zandari Festa is on the cards again.
We are the flag-bearers of the Yellow Movement. A creative community making things happen and bringing people together in peace, love and music. This is our manifesto:
“Laugh until you no longer know what it is to hate, release your soul, determine your own fate, lose your self consciousness, find anonymous awesomeness, in bottomless thoughtfulness, lose your inhibitions, forget the distractions, take non-violent direct action, be your own improvement, use your illusion. You are never alone, anyone can happen, be the best you, you can be. This is the blueprint, we are the nuisance, the fluent union of amusement. The Yellow Movement, the evolution revolution, a symbiosis of (un)conscious and conscience… do join us.”
Spread the Mustard love. Your Colonel needs you!
You ARE the 6th Dijon! We love you!
Thank you for being a friend.
Peace, love and Mustard.
