Mister Tooley unleashes some uplifting 45s and LP tracks from his extensive vinyl collection. The Scarborough based DJ and collector plays a righteous mix of gospel and secular sounds on vintage vinyl, with original hand clapping, foot-stomping spirituals bumping up against the coolest R&B, Rockabilly, Ska, Soul, Funk, Mambo and Jump Blues boppers.
These rare and unique recordings date from the 1950s to early 70s and range from raw rockers and jazz jivers to funky movers with soaring harmonies and thumping piano lines: the sanctified soul of Sister Rosetta Tharpe meets the sassy R&B of Big Maybelle.
Since 2013 Mister Tooley been one of the resident DJs in the Deluxe Diner at Glastonbury Festival / Shangri La field. “The most twisted blues and rock n’ roll records you’ll hear anywhere” says Phil Armstrong, owner of the Diner.
Mister Tooley is a regular performer at Beatherder, Solfest, Eden Festival and Scarborough Jazz Festival, where he plays a pure gospel set. He also performs at Coastival in Scarborough and Whitby’s renowned Musicport world music festival, where he programmes the DJ areas.
